Deadline reports that CBS is trucking along in the production of its Cagney & Lacey reboot, adding yet another actor to the cast. Ving Rhames (best known for his roles on films like Mission: Impossible and Pulp Fiction as well as television shows like Don King: Only in America) has joined the project and will co-star alongside Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy) and Michelle Hurd (Blindspot, Ash vs. Evil Dead)on the series.
Drew and Hurd’s casting announcement was made last week. Rhames will play Police Captain Stark, an LAPD homicide officer who is a strong and motivating leader. Meanwhile, Sarah Drew will play the titular character Cagney and Michelle Hurd will take on her young partner, Lacey.
Cagney & Lacey was a police crime drama/thriller that originally aired on CBS from 1982 to 1988. The series followed two female detectives working in Manhattan as they balanced their demanding jobs and different lifestyles outside the job. Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly played the original pair of iconic detectives.
CBS first announced its reboot, which will be set in Los Angeles as opposed to Manhattan, back in January. The series is written and executive produced by Bridget Carpenter (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) and Rosemary Rodriguez (The Walking Dead, Jessica Jones).
CBS has not yet announced a premiere date for Cagney & Lacey.
