‘Veronica Mars’ revival on Hulu with Kristen Bell reprising role

According to Deadline, Rob Thomas’ mystery drama Veronica Mars starring Kristen Bell is making comeback with a limited eight-episode series on Hulu. Veronica Mars first made its appearance in 2004 on the UPN network until it’s switch to The CW in 2006. The show centers around sardonic Veronica (Bell) after her best friend is murdered and her father (Enrico Colantoni) is removed as county Sheriff. Working as her fathers assistant in his private detective agency, Veronica dedicates her life to cracking the toughest mysteries in the affluent town of Neptune while also navigating high school life.

Even though the show only last three seasons, it has an 8.4/10 rating on IMDB and is considered a cult favorite by many. Rolling Stone had named Veronica Mars one of “20 Shows Most Influenced By Twin Peaks”. And according to Rolling Stone, after the acclaimed series’ cancellation, its devoted cult following helped generate interest in revival. In 2013, Thomas and Bell announced they were launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund a feature film continuation of the series. The campaign raised a whopping $6 million by the time it concluded, well above its initial $2 million goal, funding the 2014 film. Now, in 2018 there has been talk about finalizing deals for the new installment. There has also been preliminary conversations about bringing back a number of the other cast members from the original series and follow-up movie as well. The filming, of course, will have to work around Bell’s commitment to NBC’s The Good Place, which returns in the fall. There hasn’t been many for sure finalizing details, but it seems promising.

Hulu is the second streaming service to pursue a limited series revival of a beloved CW series. Netflix recently brought back Gilmore Girls for four follow-up movies, also from the original creator and featuring the original stars and also produced by Warner Horizon.
