Vanessa Bayer’s ‘I Love This For You’ Adds ‘black-ish’ Star Jenifer Lewis to Showtime Series

Showtime’s new comedy series, I Love This For Youhas tapped Jenifer Lewis (black-ish, The Preacher’s Wife) to co-star along with Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live, Ibiza), according to Deadline. The half-hour comedy is co-created and executive produced by Bayer and Jeremy Beiler (Saturday Night Live, Morning Glory).

Deadline reports Lewis will take on the role of Patricia, the frigid founder and CEO of a home-shopping network. The role was originally held by Cybill Shepherd (Cybill, Taxi Driver) who departed the series earlier this year. Lewis’ role will most likely be an adversary for Bayer’s character, Joanna Gold, a woman with aspirations to one day host her own home-shopping channel.

Based on Bayer’s own life experiences, I Love This For You follows Gold as she works to reach her ultimate goal of being more than the woman who beat childhood leukemia, via Deadline. Her strategy includes moving out of her parent’s home, developing her first adult romantic relationship, and grinding to become a big name in the home shopping network game. This is where she meets her own idol, Jackie, played by fellow Saturday Night Live alumna, Molly Shannon (Promising Young Woman, The White Lotus). With Jackie already established in the home shopping world, the two will collaborate together to compete in the cutthroat business.

According to Deadline, Lewis joins a cast that includes Paul James (Unlovable, Greek), Ayden Mayeri (New Girl, Homecoming), Matt Rogers (Gayme Show, The After Party), and Punam Patel (Special, Kevin From Work). Jessi Klein (You’ll Grow Out Of It, Best Week Ever) is set as the series’ showrunner with several executive producers including Annapurna’s Megan Ellison and Sue Naegle (Zero Dark Thirty, American Hustle). They are joined by Michael Showalter (Wet Hot American Summer, The Big Sick), Semi-Formal’s Jordana Mollick (Hello, My Name Is Doris, Life Partners), and Allyce Ozarski (The L Word: Generation Q).
