Netflix Releases ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Release Date

Netflix’s anime live-action adaptation Cowboy Bebop will premiere on the streamer on November 19, according to The VergeThe show has been in development for years, with a cast finally being announced in 2019.

Cowboy Bebop takes place in the year 2071 and follows a group of bounty hunters who complete missions using their spaceship called “Bepop.” The series aired in 1998 and was short-lived, only releasing one season. John Cho (Searching) has been cast as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir (Marvel’s Luke Cage) as Jet Black, and Daniella Pineda (Mercy Black) as Faye Valentine. Returning as the original show’s composer, Yoko Kanno (Macross Plus) will illuminate the Netflix live-action series with his original soundtrack.

The COVID-19 pandemic alongside a 2019 injury from the show’s lead actor, Cho, created for even further postponement of the release. Cho reportedly suffered a knee injury during a well-rehearsed scene. The injury was so severe that he flew from New Zealand, where the series was filmed, to Los Angeles, for emergency surgery and rehabilitation.

Cowboy Bebop will be available to stream on Netflix beginning November 19.
