The Spider-Verse future is far from being over, despite the recent cancellation on the second season of Spider Noir. According to Screenrant, the series stars Nicolas Cage (Ghost Rider, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) as the lead character, Ben Reilly, and features a unique narrative that earned it five Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The finale of Spider Noir showcase the death of Silverman, played by Brendan Gleeson (Braveheart, Troy), the defeat of Megwatt, played by Andrew Caldwell (Haunt, The Matrix Resurrection), and usig the last antidote to cure a dying Sandman aka Marco, played by Jack Huston (Outlander, American Hustle).
Stated by Screenrant, Spider Noir was not the first series to have focus on the journey of alternate reality of the iconic webslinger, with a prior project idea called Silk: Spider Society. The plot would follow Cindy Moon, a Korean-American woman who is bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter Parker, gaining powers and adopting the superhero identity Silk.
Reported by Screenrant, rather than admitting defeating, the ambitious partnership between Sony and Prime Video set a new course with the development of new series written by brilliant minds. The writers that will be behind the projects will include Kelvin Yu (American Born Chinese, Bob’s Burger), Ben H. Winters (Tracker, Legion), Alison Tatlock (Better Call Saul, Stranger Things), Ben Nedivi & Matt Wolpert (For All Mankind, The Umbrella Academy) and Megan McDonnell (WandaVision, The Marvels).
While details regarding the characters and plot of these upcoming projects currently remain under lock and key, the project could easily shift focus to bring other iconic heroes to life—such as Ghost-Spider, Spider-Man 2099, or Miles Morales.
For fans disappointed by the sudden end of Spider-Noir, the silver lining is clear: the streaming web is only expanding, and a brand-new live-action superhero series may be swinging onto screens sooner than expected. All episodes of Spider Noir’s first season is available to stream on prime video and can be presented in both a full color and black and white version.
