‘UnREAL’ casts two new characters

After scoring big ratings for Lifetime last summer, their hit show UnREAL is back for a second season, complete with a new cast of supporting characters.

The show, which is a dramatized parody of ABC’s The Bachelor series, follows the cast and behind-the-scenes crew of Everlasting, a show where a young guy tries to rehab his image by finding true love.

Recently, the show casted two new roles, two women vying for love on the show.

Meagan Tandy has been casted in the role of Chantal, who is “a Southern debutante who’s elegant, beautiful, polished and believes she’s destined to marry Hill, after the tragic loss of her fiancé,” according to Variety.

Kim Matula has been casted in the other role, playing Tiffany, “a hot, smart and rich all-American girl who’s the daughter of a professional football team owner. She hopes that “Everlasting” will help her step out of her father’s shadow,” Variety said in the same article.

Tandy and Matula join new cast members Denée Benton and Monica Barbaro, who are playing other contestants in the show. Michael Rady is going to be one of the filmmakers for the show and Gentry White joins the cast as the cousin of Darius Hill, the bachelor for the season.

For the upcoming season of UnREAL, the producers went with an African American bachelor, something ABC’s hit franchise has yet to do while it’s been on the air.

Season one of UnREAL featured all the makings of good drama, especially in a show that seems to be spoofing The Bachelor. At one point in the first episode, producer of Everlasting, Quinn, offers the other producers cash bonuses for things such as tears or fights on camera. The producers pick who they want to be the villain of the season and the TV network executives even have their say in who they want to win the season.

In the season one finale episode, the producers and TV executives fly to England, where Adam, the bachelor from the first season, is from. While he’s there, he introduces the two remaining women to his family, and after his grandmother tells him which one he should and shouldn’t propose to, he chooses Anna, the one who his family approves of and they start having their royalty-inspired wedding.

In a twist, reminiscent of many Bachelor and Bachelorette couples not getting married and breaking off their engagements before the wedding, Anna realizes that Adam isn’t the one for her and leaves him at the altar.

The season ends with the two main producers, Quinn and Rachel, talking about the plans for the show for their next season.

Season two of UnREAL is expected to air sometime later in 2016.
