CBS is developing a new comedy that depicts the lives of low-level workers at the United Nations. The single-camera series, titled UNprofessionals, will be executive produced by Seth Rogen and his independent production company Point Grey. Its pilot will be written by Scrubs alum Andy Schwartz in conjunction with comedian-writer twins Jason and Randy Sklar. All three will join Rogen as EP’s. Arrested Development and Super Troopers alum Jay Chandrasekhar has been tapped to direct the workplace comedy as well as executive produce. Finally, joining Rogen from Point Grey and rounding out the list of EP’s will be his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg as well as James Weaver and Alex McAtee.
The show will be the latest in a slew of offerings from Point Grey. The production company is currently basking in the success of its film Good Boys, which made $21 million in its opening weekend. Its new series will be produced by Lionsgate TV, with which it has a multi-platform deal.
UNprofessionals is currently one of many projects being developed by Point Grey for CBS. The production company is also developing the anthology series First Ladies for CBS-owned Showtime. In addition, the network has also picked up both a scripted series and a documentary from Point Gray, each of which will air on the CBS Interactive subscription service.
The announcement of UNprofessionals marks the first occasion that a show written by Schwartz or the Sklar brothers is being developed for network television. Schwartz, whose past accomplishments include creating Mighty Med for premium channel Disney XD, stated on twitter, “To my fellow writers: This biz can be tough. It can be exhausting. It can be disheartening. So I hope you don’t mind if I celebrate this small victory. It took 2 YEARS to get here and I couldn’t be prouder.”
The Sklar brothers boast a long acting career in tandem with their histories as writers. The pair has appeared in shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Glow, and Better Call Saul. They also have three comedy specials to their collective name. Their past TV writing credits include MTV’s Apt. 2F and YDIW with the Sklar Brothers.
