‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ to end after 4 Seasons with a possible movie series finale

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be ending its run on Netflix after its fourth season. The movie would, of course, be written by series co-creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. The first half of Kimmy Schmidt‘s fourth and final season debuted in May, with the last six episodes set to arrive on Jan. 25. There’s also been some talk of a stand-alone movie.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt stars Ellie Kemper (The Office), Tituss Burgess (30 Rock), Jane Krakowski (30 Rock) and Carol Kane (The Princess Bride).  Netflix picked up the single-camera comedy, originally piloted and given a 13-episode series order by NBC, with a two-season pickup ahead of its debut on the broadcast network. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is the first ongoing original half-hour comedy series to debut on Netflix. It has been among the streaming giant’s most acclaimed shows, earning 16 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including a best series nomination for all of its seasons, so far.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt follows Kimmy Schmidt (Kemper) after she was rescued from an underground bunker in which she was held captive for fifteen years. Kimmy decides to move to New York City to have a normal life. She becomes friends with her new roommate, Titus (Burgess), and gets a job as a babysitter for Jacqueline Voorhees (Krakowski), the problematic wife of a billionaire. She also befriends her cooky, oddball landlord, Lillian Kaushtupper (Kane).

After kicking off the season with Kimmy taking on the corporate world, the second half of the season will bring series breakout Titus Andromedon starring in the theme song for a faux ’90s-esque show called “Magic Boy.” Also in the upcoming episodes, Netflix teases that Kimmy will have to choose between helping her friends and helping herself. Part two of season four also includes an hourlong “Sliding Doors” episode, inspired by the 1998 Gwyneth Paltrow movie of the same name that explores how the characters’ lives might have been different if Kimmy had never been kidnapped.
