Tyler, the Creator and L-Boy Have a Deal With Sony

Tyler, the Creator and his partner Lionel Boyce (known by the name L-Boy) just signed a deal that will bring many smiles to Loiter Squad and Odd Future fans. Signing with Sony Pictures Television, Tyler, the Creator and L-Boy will be responsible for new content for the major media company. And they’re bringing their Odd Future Family with them.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “The 27-year-old rapper and his producing partner Lionel Boyce will be developing projects for television and digital properties, both scripted and unscripted, for Sony under their Bald Face Productions shingle.” The press received news of this deal, this past Wednesday, October 16.

This may be a huge deal for diversity in television. Nationally. Globally. Sony powers many networks and partners with even more. What once was an Adult Swim treasure can reach billions, with Sony’s connections with Netflix, and deals with national and international channels. Now, with Tyler’s help, there will be shows that are built up by and potentially starring people of color and members of the LGBTQIA+.

While that is just my speculation (and hopefulness) that these shows will reflect a more diverse cast, if there is any doubt about whether these shows will maintain and uphold the classic and goofy humor that has become known as a part of Odd Future’s brand, just turn to Tyler, the Creator’s remark, as noted by the Hollywood Reporter article, “Tacos are great with bar-b-que sauce, I’m excited.”

“To be partnering with the creative genius of Tyler, the Creator and Lionel Boyce is a dream come true for us as we’ve long been fans of their work,” Jeff Frost, President of Sony Pictures Television said. He is eager to be working with the two and excited for their work together. “Tyler’s unconventional ingenuity is unparalleled, and we are excited about the prospect of what we can create together.”

“Sony Pictures Television has been a hub for great television for many decades and we’re excited to be a part of a place where we will have the resources to develop new ideas,” L-Boy said. So, fans of Odd Future, Tyler, the Creator, and Loiter Squad get ready.
