Two-Hour TV Special Remake of ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ on Fox

Kenneth Ortega (High School Musical) will direct a two-hour TV special remake of the classic, Rocky Horror Picture Show, on Fox.

The 1975 cult classic will be filmed prior and will not air live. Alongside Ortega, Gail Berman and Lou Adler, original producers for the show, will be executive producers on the remake. Fox 21 Television Studios, and Berman’s The Jackal Group will be producing the special on Fox.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this is not the first attempt at remaking the classic show. Back in 2002, Fox released plans for an adaptation, but nothing ever came of the rumored project.

Fox’s Glee covered several of Rocky Horror Picture Show‘s most popular songs for a Season 2 episode. The fox series even released a special The Rocky Horror Glee Show EP.

There is no plan for when the remake will premiere. But, Fox also has a live musical production of Grease, which will star Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens, scheduled to air on January 31, 2016.

Kenneth Ortega’s credits include Gilmore Girls, This Is It and Hocus Pocus. He is represented by Paradigm and Hanson, Jacobson.
