Two Hour ‘M*A*S*H’ Reunion Special to Air on Fox New Years Day

Fox is ringing in 2024 strong with a timeless reunion. The network has just announced that the iconic sitcom M*A*S*H will debut its new special on January 1st. The special, titled M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television, will be a two-hour look back into the series littered with behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and stories that fans will finally get to see. 

The special was announced on Wednesday, December 6, and will not be shy with its content. It will include exclusive interviews from surviving cast members Alan Alda (The West Wing), Gary Burghoff (W*A*L*T*E*R), Jamie Farr (The Cannonball Run), Mike Farrell (Providence), and Loretta Swit (Cagney & Lacey). The special will also include interviews from executive producers Gene Reynolds (Lou Grant) and Burt Metcalfe (Gidget, The Canadians). The members that have passed away will also have their piece in the special as it was announced that they will be “Remembered through a vibrant collection of clips from the series as well as in rarely-seen archival interviews.”

The original series M*A*S*H aired on Fox from 1972-1983. The series is timeless and is best described as “among the most iconic sitcoms in the annals of television history,” by Dan Harrison who is Fox’s EVP of Program Planning & Content Strategy in a recent statement about the reunion. He then says, “It’s a timeless show that comedically captures the 4077th medical corps and how they managed to maintain their sanity while saving lives on the front lines of the Korean War… Fox is proud to celebrate the landmark achievements of one of the best comedies ever created.”

The series finale to M*A*S*H still holds the record for the most highly viewed and rated telecast to date. Its record has held its spot in TV history for almost 40 years now. The TV special M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television will air on Fox on January 1, 2024.
