‘Twin Peaks’ Season 3 Teaser Speaks Volumes Without Saying A Word

Puzzling, mysterious, or downright spooky are all terms one could use to describe cult classic Twin Peaks. There’s murder, possession, and so much more in the eponymous small town, and it’s enough to make even the toughest of television fans catch a chill now and again. The newest teaser for Showtime’s upcoming third season of the series manages to hit that nail on the head within 30 seconds.

No dialogue, just flashes of the town’s most iconic locations and some eerie music to cap it off. That’s the Twin Peaks fans remember, defined as much by its setting as any characters or abnormalities.

Master of the surreal David Lynch’s style of delving deep into the subconscious is on display in the brief clip, with billowing fog so easily accompanied by ramshackle homes and small town fixtures. A darkness still hangs over Twin Peaks, Washington despite the time that has passed, and if anything the questions which desperately need answering raise more questions about what makes it so different from your average locale. It’s David Lynch being David Lynch which is arguably the best situation the reboot can be in.

Though the teaser speaks volumes about the stylistic approach the series will take, it still doesn’t say anything about the plot or what to expect. That is, after all, the point of a teaser. However, Twin Peaks Season 3 has been shrouded in mystery since it was announced back in 2014. Now, with the premiere less than a month away, a quick look forward should be enough to get viewers both familiar and new good and riled up for what’s to come.

Two episodes of the third season will also be screened at Cannes 2017 in May, one of the first two television programs ever featured at the festival.

Twin Peaks returns May 21 on Showtime. Stay tuned with mxdwn Television for further information leading up to the debut, and watch the first two seasons on Showtime if you need to catch up.
