Actress Tracee Ellis Ross (black-ish, mixed-ish) announced on Sunday that she will appear in a rendition of The Golden Girls with an all-Black cast, according to Entertainment Weekly. The news was released via Instagram with a short video of Ellis, Regina King (Watchmen, 227), Alfre Woodard (Clemency, Luke Cage), and Sanaa Latha (The Cleveland Show, The Perfect Guy) photoshopped over the original cast.
The original sitcom featured Betty White (Hot in Cleveland, Life with Elizabeth) who plays Rose, Bea Arthur (Maude, All in the Family) who plays Dorothy, Rue McClanahan (Maude, The Golden Palace) who plays Blanche, and Estelle Getty (The Golden Palace, Empty Nest) who plays Sophia. The women live together in their Miami home. According to the video announcement, Ross is set to portray Rose, King will play Dorothy, Woodard will play Sophia and Lathan will play the role of Blanche.
While still unclear whether the actresses will act out new material or an existing episode of the original series, it is set to air on Tuesday at 6 p.m ET over Zoom, kicking off the series “Zoom Where It Happens.”
