Adult Swim Officially Cancels ‘The Venture Bros.’ After Seven Season Run

After 17 years, Adult Swim has come to the decision to cancel one of its longest-running animated shows, The Venture Bros., as reported in Variety. Series creator Christopher McCulloch (The Tick) took to Twitter on Monday, under his pseudonym Jackson Publick, to acknowledge the show’s cancellation:

Variety reports that Adult Swim is in talks of looking for alternative ways to continue the show along with McCulloch and co-writer Doc Hammer (Puss Bucket) at the helm, though no official announcement has been made as of yet.

“We also want more Venture Bros. and have been working with Jackson [Publick] and Doc [Hammer] to find another way to continue the Venture Bros. story,” said Adult Swim in a statement (Variety)

Voice actor James Urbaniak (American Splendor) also spoke via Twitter about his time on the show:

The Venture Bros. followed the lives and adventures of the Venture family, which included the incompetent but well-intentioned teenagers Hank and Dean, their emotionally insecure, super-scientist father Dr. Thaddeus “Rusty” Venture, and the family bodyguard Brock Samson. Conceived of as a as an irreverent spoof on the 60’s show Jonny Quest, the adult animated series blends elements of action/adventure and comedy while playing off of superhero and pop culture tropes.

McCulloch, Hammer, and Urbaniak voiced several of the characters on the show in addition to Michael Sinterniklaas (Your Name, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Patrick Warburton (The Emperor’s New Groove, Bee Movie), Steven Rattazzi (The Family) and Dana Snyder (Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Squidbillies).
