Tom Hiddleston to Lead Political Thriller “White Stork” on Netflix

Famous film actor Tom Hiddleston, best known as Loki in the Marvel cinematic universe, will be coming to the small screen with a 10-part political thriller called White Stork. The series was created by Jericho writer Christopher Dunlop and will be directed by Kristoffer Nyholm, best known for Taboo.

The series will explore Hiddleston’s character James Cooper as he is chosen to run for parliament and will be vetted for primetime by Asher Millan, who is to background check him. The show will delve into issues of truth and trust in a world that is “post-truth,” according to Deadline.

However, Asher uncovers extremely damaging secrets from James’ past that will threaten to destroy everything, from James’ career to his marriage and the powerful people behind his campaign. The role of Asher or any of the other characters has not yet been cast.

Formerly titled Spadehead, the British series has been in development for several years, first with AMC and now with Netflix. The show is produced by the same production company, Eleven, who produces the breakout high school drama Sex Education, which just premiered its second season on Netflix last month.

This is the second time Hiddleston has appeared on the small screen, having won a Golden Globe and earned an Emmy nomination for his role in the British limited series The Night Manager on AMC in the U.S.

Hiddleston cannot get enough of the small screen; he will also star in Disney Plus’ forthcoming Marvel spinoff series Loki, which will debut in spring 2021. The show will pick up where the movie, Avengers: Endgame, ended.
