‘To Selena With Love’ Is Being Adapted for Television

The Wrap recently uncovered the news that To Selena With Love is set to be adapted for television.

The development is based off the book of the same name, which outlines the real-life love story of singer Selena Quintanilla and Chris Perez. The singer rose to astonishing amounts of fame in the 1980s. The Texas-native singer sold over 60 millions albums worldwide, thrusting Latin American music into the cultural zeitgeist. Her music served to link the American and Latin American cultures, and her talent and onstage presence garnered her a loyal legion of fans.

Selena was murdered in 1995 by the founder of her fan club, but her legendary image still remains. Selena, a movie that chronicled her life, was made two years after her death and debuted Jennifer Lopez as Selena Quintanilla.

Now the story of Selena and Chris’ love is set to be shared onscreen once again. Perez himself penned the book himself back in 2012, and he’s finally ready to share the rights:

“I spent several years keeping the memories of my late wife bottled up inside,” Perez said. “To Selena with Love allowed me to finally embrace my experience and understand the void it could fill in the hearts of so many others. I am now ready to take the important step of being fully transparent and bringing my everlasting relationship to life on the screen.”

To Selena With Love is being adapted by Endemic Shine, Major TV, and Perez and Carlito Miranda’s production company Blue Mariachi. To further emphasize the connection between Latin America and the US that Selena so embodied, the companies are looking to adapt the project for both English and Spanish audiences.

I earned a degree in English with a minor in Film Studies from the University of Georgia in 2017, and am using my love of writing and television to share the stories of what's happening in the television industry.
