TNT’s ‘Snowpiercer’ Casts Rowan Blanchard

Viewers may remember the film Snowpiercer from 2013 starring Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton. The film is set during post-apocalyptic time when the world has been frozen over. What remains is a train moving around the globe that carries people divided up by social status in each compartment. Eventually, a mutiny is formed by those labeled as the lower class against the upper class. A TV reboot was announced last year for TNT.

Executive VP of Original Programming at TNT, Sarah Aubrey, was excited to continue the story in a series of episodes.

“I’m a personal fan of Bong Joon Ho’s epic film and jumped at the chance to honor his original vision, yet expand upon the world and characters with a diverse, award-winning cast,” said Aubrey. “Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. Snowpiercer will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride.”

Rowan Blanchard (Girl Meets World) is set to guest star in Snowpiercer with series leads Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly. Blanchard will be playing the role of 17-year-old Alexandra whose character is integral to the history of Snowpiercer. If the show receives a second season, Blanchard will become a series regular.

Actor Aleks Paunovic will play Bojan Boscovic, Breachworker for the train. “It’s been great,” Paunovic previously told ComicBook.com. “It’s a massive ensemble. It’s an amazing cast. You know, Jennifer Connelly? Come on. And she’s been nothing but a pleasure to work with. An extremely smart actor. And all the creatives behind it, everybody behind the scenes and the actors, again, huge ensemble. So I’m just feeling very grateful that I get to be put in a spot to watch these people act. And having it on a TV series from a film that I thought was fantastic and them asking me to come aboard, no pun intended, to do the show, it’s been a blessing.”

Snowpiercer premieres this summer.
