Tina Fey’s First Adult Animation Series, ‘Mulligan’, Teaser Trailer Released

According to ScreenRant, Tina Fey’s (Mean Girls, Saturday Night Live) first animated series, Mulligan, just released its first teaser trailer in April 11th, 2023. The adult cartoon sitcom follows the events after an alien invasion, causing the endangered extinction of humanity as well as the apocalypse. The show follows earth’s final survivors trying to rebuild their home after it’s already been destroyed beyond recognition.

The Netflix trailer is hailed from comedy writers Sam Means (The Daily Show, Parks & Recreation) and Robert Carlock (Friends, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot) alongside Fey who are all notably responsible for television hits like 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Their newest series finds them writing about the unfortunate events of the scraggly leftovers of humanity trying to adjust and adapt to their post-apocalyptic world struggling to rebuild the planet they once took for granted.

The first look of the show also announced major characters and their voice-acting counterparts. According to ScreenRant, the main protagonist and unexpected hero of the world/apocalypse/invasion, Matt Mulligan, is voiced by Nat Faxon (Disenchantment, Bad Teacher). Making up for his intellectual shortcomings, Mulligan saves the day with brash bravery and ill-advised heroics mimicked from old action movies. Although his childish tactic may not be as effective in the task of leading the new world.

Additional confirmed cast member, Chrissy Teigen (Chrissy’s Court, Hotel Transylvania 3), will be performing the role of Lucy Suwan, a short-time romantic interest of Mulligan during their seemingly final hours. Suwan becomes a reluctant First Lady, struggling to help the unqualified leader as well as rekindling their doomsday attraction to each other.

Joining headliners Teigen and Faxon are a group of unlikely stragglers who happen to survive due to sheer luck or idiocracy. Secondary characters include Sam Richardson (VEEP, Detroiters) portraying Simon Prioleau – the world’s only historian alive; Dana Carvey (Wayne’s World, Sandy Wexler) as Senator Cartwright Lamar – a sketchy politician who weaseled their way into the vice presidency; Tina Fey as Dr. Farrah Braun – voice of reason, scientist, and single mother in the end of days; and finally Phil LaMarr (Pulp Fiction, Futurama) playing the sole alien prisoner from the invasion attacks dubbed Axatrax.

Not only does Fey have a star lineup of recurring characters for her adult animation, Mulligan, she has also hired some stellar guest roles throughout the course of the series such as: Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, Miracle Workers) as the final British citizen declaring himself a King with no subjects; Ayo Edibiri (Bottoms, Abbot Elementary) plays General Scarpaccio – a disinterested teen now with a position as head of the Joint Chiefs; Ronny Chieng (Young Rock, M3GAN) portraying Johnny Zhao – a billionaire trying to make his fortune relevant again; and Kevin Micheal Richardson (Mortal Kombat, The Super Mario Bros Movie) as TOD-209 – an incomplete military cyborg sent to fight off the invasion unprepared.

Other executive producers working alongside Tina Fey are David Miner (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place), Eric Gurian (Sisters, Busy Tonight), Scott Greenberg (The Guilty, Emancipation), and Joel Kuwahara (Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons). The post-apocalyptic cartoon series, Mulligan, is set to premiere on Netflix this May 12th.
