Tim Allen’s ‘Last Man Standing’ Could Make Another Stand

Talks are in place with Fox Broadcasting to resurrect the former ABC comedy Last Man Standing. If picked up, this could be a seventh season for the the Tim Allen series.

Stories surrounding the potential renewal include a deal Allen has inked with 20th Century Fox TV. Series co-stars Hector Elizondo and Nancy Travis are currently connected with other projects leaving their potential return up in the air. Network sources note there are many details to work out and that nothing is a done deal.

The series follows Allen’s character of Mike Baxter as he faces challenges with his work as a senior exec with a sporting goods store as well as the foibles of raising three daughters. Baxter is a devout Christian and political conservative making him appealing to folk in the heartland.

Tim Allen has continued to voice his disappointment over the series cancellation for the last year. Recently he’s taken to Twitter to share Last Man Standing outtakes with sentimental comments. His most recent comment earlier today was one of gratitude to supporters of the show’s return:

Many feel this potential return is not only based on the outpouring of support from conservatives but also the recent popularity of his 1990s sitcom friend Roseanne Barr’s revived show. During its run on ABC, it brought in significant numbers in the Friday night dead slot ranking second behind Modern Family in the comedy category. With respectable numbers in syndication, it makes sense for Fox to take a second glance.

In a year seeing success with series and star revivals (Roseanne, Will & Grace) and more to come in the fall (Magnum PI, Murphy Brown), it seems to be a prime time to jump on the bandwagon.
