The WGA Replies To The Counteroffer From Studios

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Writers Guild of America has replied to the studio’s counteroffer and states that is not enough. The WGA has shared its perspective on the ongoing progress of the contract negotiation with studios and streamers since it began on August 11th. 

WGA leadership wrote in an email to members, “The companies’ counteroffer is neither nothing nor nearly enough. We will continue to advocate for proposals that fully address our issues rather than accept half measures like those mentioned above and other proposals not listed here.” 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this update comes shortly after the recent proposal to the WGA from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Tuesday night the WGA and the different entertainment companies had fierce back and forth. The discussion included the WGA, AMPTP president Carol Lombardini, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, Disney CEO Bob Iger, and Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairman Donna Langley. They issued a six-page document that detailed their offer from August 11th. 

Lombardini said in a statement, “Our priority is to end the strike so that valued members of the creative community can return to what they do best and to end the hardships that so many people and businesses that service the industry are experiencing.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the writer’s strike has gone on for more than 100 days and finally, the two sides have started meeting on and off since August 11th.  The union did not take the recent  approach the entertainment company was taking and quickly shot back with a response that claimed that the proposal “failed to sufficiently protect writers” and said the AMPTP was seeking “not to bargain, but to jam us.”
