‘The Walking Dead’: ‘Too Far Gone’ Episode Facts

Until now, The Walking Dead has been a story about two camps, but the mid-season finale episode connected the two seemingly separate worlds.

Too Far Gone – the title of last week’s episode, expressed that some people cannot be saved. The action starts showing the Governor (David Morrissey) convincing his group that they must take over the prison in order to survive. He says that he wants to do this peacefully, but he takes two hostages as bargaining tools: Hershel and Michonne.

In the prison, after Rick (Andrew Lincoln) told Daryl what happened to Carol, explaining that she is safer on her own than with them, Tyreese discovers a dissected rat. Then, they are are interrupted by the sound of gunshots outside.

Meanwhile, at the other camp, Lily is watching for biters while Megan is playing in the dirt. After the little girl finds a sign in the dirt, a hand catches her out of the mud and the zombie bites her.

Back at the prison, Rick discovers that the Governor is outside the fences with armed men and a tank. Even though Rick says that he is not the one making the decisions, he has to go and talk with the enemy. When he mentions that there is a council deciding what needs to be done, the Governor brings Hershel and Michonne (Danai Gurira) to kneel in front of him. He tells Rick to start making a decision and to leave the prison along with his group.

Even though Rick was trying to make a deal, the Governor did not want all of them to live together in one place. He took Michonne’s katana and placed it on Hershel’s neck. Rick begged him to give up the fight and when Hershel smiled thinking that the message was understood, the Governor cut Hershel’s throat destroying any chances for peace. This was an important fact of the episode because this was the actual moment when the battle began.

The tank went through the fences and the Governor stayed behind to make sure Hershel (Scott Wilson) was dead. At one point, Lily got to them with her daughter in her arms. In the prison, things were not looking good, and the children ran to get to the bus (the safe place) when Lizzie tried to convince them to fight like Carol taught them. The children do this,  and save Tyreese from Alisha and Jose just in time.

Meanwhile, Rick is fighting with the Governor and is saved by Michonne, who kills their enemy. Daryl (Norman Reedus) uses a walker as a shield and tosses a grenade down the barrel of the tank, then he kills Mitch with a crossbow bolt.

Rick found Carl alive and they discovered that Judith is missing from her carrier which is stained with blood. By now, the prison is filled with walkers.

The episode ends showing Lilly (Audrey Marie Anderson ) getting to the Governor, who is crawling on the ground due to injuries. She brings the war to an end by shooting him, but the prison is no longer a safe place.

The Walking Dead will return with a new episode on February 9, 2014, on AMC.
