‘The Voice’ Contestant Dylan Carter Dies At 24 After Car Accident

According to Entertainment Weekly, Dylan Carter, a Season 24 contestant on NBC’s The Voice, has died at 24 following a car accident in South Carolina. The outlet reports that Carter, who moved all four coaches during his blind audition, was pronounced dead after the crash on Saturday night.

Entertainment Weekly notes that Moncks Corner mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. confirmed Carter’s death in a public statement. Hamilton remembered the young singer as a regular performer at community events and wrote that Carter’s kindness and presence earned him deep respect throughout the town.

A tribute highlighted by Entertainment Weekly also came from The Local Voice, a nonprofit Carter co‑founded to support women battling breast cancer. The organization described him as “the heart of what we do,” adding that his music and generosity brought people together and made community members feel seen.

During his Season 24 blind audition, which Entertainment Weekly revisits in its coverage, Carter performed Whitney Houston’s “I Look to You,” earning four chair turn from Reba McEntire (Reba, Tremors), John Legend (La La Land, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert), Gwen Stefani (No Doubt, The Voice), and Niall Horan (The X Factor, One Direction: This Is Us). McEntire told him, “So much emotion, and I saw it and I felt it when you were singing,” praising the sincerity he brought to the performance.

As Entertainment Weekly recounts, Legend also offered heartfelt praise, telling Carter, “We are all very grateful that we get to do this show and we get to meet people like you, and we get to give you this opportunity to perform this song in tribute to your mom.” Carter chose McEntire as his coach and advanced to the Battle Rounds before being eliminated.

Following his time on the show, Entertainment Weekly reports that Carter continued performing throughout the Lowcountry while supporting The Local Voice’s fundraising efforts. His community work, musical talent, and personal resilience made him a standout figure both on and off the series.
