The Third Season of ‘Magnum P.I.’ Will Begin Production in Mid-August

Magnum P.I.‘s third season will begin production in mid-August in Hawaii despite concerns about the coronavirus, per Deadline. The action crime drama, starring Jay Hernandez (Suicide SquadHostel), is a remake of the 8 season-long show under the same name that premiered in 1980 and starred Tom Selleck (Blue BloodsThree Men and a Baby). Both shows aired on CBS.

Hawaii still has travel limitations in place. According to GoHawaii.com, the Hawaii government’s official travel website, “Travelers to Hawaii who have a valid negative COVID-19 polymerise chain reaction (PCR) test from a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified laboratory prior to arriving at Hawaii’s airports will not be subject to the state’s mandatory 14-day quarantine.” The cast and crew of Magnum P.I. will be required to have a negative COVID-19 test in order for them to shoot in Hawaii.

According to a New York Times graphic, the majority of Hawaii has experienced little or no new cases of the coronavirus in the past two weeks, with the exception Honolulu County on the island of Oahu, which saw twelve new cases within the past two weeks. Magnum P.I., unfortunately, films on Oahu, so the cast and crew may be at risk concerning the pandemic. Despite the risk, Hawaii rates of infection and death as a result of the coronavirus are the lowest of any U.S. state. According to Deadline, “Magnum P.I. could be the first U.S. broadcast series on American soil to emerge from the coronavirus-related shutdown.”

Magnum P.I. is about private investigator and former Navy SEAL Thomas Magnum. He uses his skills he gained in the Navy to solve crimes on Oahu. The show’s executive producers are Danielle Woodrow (ScorpionS.W.A.T.), Peter M. Lenkov (R.I.P.D., MacGyver) , John Fox (Dolemite Is My Name, Game Night), Eric Guggenheim (Hawaii Five-0), John Davis (i, Robot; Waterworld), and Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6, Better Luck Tomorrow).
