Disney’s D23 Expo featured several exciting announcements and reveals from various fandoms and content hubs. The cast and creative minds behind The Simpsons announced yesterday that the long-running animated sitcom would stream its 33rd season on Disney+ on October 5th, per the Disney press release. The 33rd season of the series premiered on FOX on September 29th, 2021
During the D23 Expo, the streamer also released a new Simpsons short titled “Welcome to the Club.” The short follows Lisa Simpson, who embarks on a journey to become the ultimate princess only to meet Disney’s most prominent villains, including Ursula, Jafar, Queen of Hearts, and others.
The Simpsons earned a nomination at this year’s Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program for the episode “When Billie Met Lisa.” Netflix’s Arcane ultimately won the award and three other statues across various creative arts categories.
The Simpsons stars four-time Emmy Award winner Dan Castellaneta (All Rise), two-time Emmy Award winner Julie Kavner (Click), and Emmy Award winner Nancy Cartwright (Rugrats). Emmy Award winner Yeardley Smith (Fresh Off the Boat) co-stars alongside six-time Emmy Award winner Hank Azaria (Brockmire) and Emmy Award winner Harry Shearer (The Salon), among others. Throughout the show’s run, it has received 98 Emmy nominations and 35 wins.
Other announcements from the D23 Expo include the long-awaited teaser trailer for Disney’s upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid. The film stars Halle Bailey (grown-ish) as Ariel, Daveed Diggs (Blindspotting) as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay (Room) as Flounder, Awkwafina (The Farewell) as the voice of Scuttle, and Jonah Hauer-King (A Dog’s Way Home) as Prince Eric.
The 34th season of The Simpsons will premiere on September 25th on FOX. The first thirty-two seasons of the series are available to stream now on Disney+.
