‘The Shannara Chronicles’ Canceled After Two Seasons

Variety reports that The Shannara Chronicles has been canceled. The series aired for two seasons before its cancellation.

Based on the book series by Terry Brooks, the series first aired in 2016 on MTV before moving to Spike this past fall for its second season. Restructuring at MTV and Viacom, the parent company of Spike, caused the show’s move between the two networks. MTV made the move to let go of its scripted shows in favor of unscripted shows. Spike is also making preparations to relaunch as the Paramount Network.

Ratings for The Shannara Chronicles went down approximately 75 percent. Season 2 of the series grabbed a rating of 0.09 in adults 18-49 and 250,000 viewers per episode. The second season premiered in October and consisted of 10 episodes.

The show starred Austin Butler, Manu Bennett, Aaron Jakubenko, Ivana Baquero, Marcus Vanco, Vanessa Morgan, Caroline Chikezie, Malese Jow, Gentry White, and Desmond Chiam. Al Gough and Miles Millar created the series and served as executive producers alongside Brooks, Jonathan Liebesman, Jon Favreau, and Dan Farah. Sonar Entertainment produced and distributed the series worldwide in association with Millar/Gough Ink and Farah Films.
