The Second Season Premiere of Marvel and Disney+’s ‘Loki’ Racks Up Record Making Viewing Numbers

The second season of the Disney+ series Loki premiered its first episode on October 5 at 9 p.m. ET. The total run time for episode one is 47 minutes, and in its first three days on the streaming service, it accumulated 10.9 million worldwide views. Via The Hollywood Reporter, “…that equates to about 512 million minutes (8.54 million hours) of total viewing.”

The first episode, titled “Ouroboros”, features Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once), as Ouroborus or O.B. Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston (Kong: Skull Island), experiences time-slipping, which results in him jumping from the present, past, and future without warning.  Loki and Mobius, played by Owen Wilson (Marley & Me), seek help from O.B to fix the problem. The first episode ends with Loki informing Mobius of their urgent need to find and rescue another Loki Variant that goes by Sylvie, played by Sophia Di Martino (Yesterday).

Currently, Loki is on pace to pass the five-day viewing total of the Star Wars series Ahsoka. In the first five days of Ahsoka’s debut on Disney+, it racked up 14 million views. Loki is second behind The Mandalorian for the most watched premiere of Disney+ series in 2023. The Mandalorian released its third season in March of this year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The strong start for season two of Loki isn’t a big surprise, as the show’s first season was the most watched of any Marvel series on Disney+ to date.” Season one, also consisting of six episodes, averaged around 872 million viewing minutes per week. This number is according to Nielsen figures.

Marvel and Disney have not yet announced if there is a third season in sight for the God of Mischief.

The second episode is available for streaming on October 12. The second season of Loki will have six total episodes, placing the last episode on November 9.
