‘The Purge’ on USA casts Jessica Miesel

According to Deadline, The Purge has cast Jessica Miesel as Alison, one who dreams of a corner office and promotion. Miesel is an actor and singer from Conyers, Georgia. She is known from The Resident as Nurse Jessica Moore. She can also be seen as Shannon in Office Christmas Party.

The series is based on the hit movie franchise from Blumhouse Productions. The first, The Purge, released in 2013, surrounds a wealthy family being held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the annual Purge. The second, released the next year, The Purge: Anarchy, occurs 16 years later and focuses on three groups intertwined during the event: a couple driving home whose car breaks down just as the Purge begins, a police sergeant seeking revenge on the man who killed his son, and a mother and daughter seeking shelter after assailants destroy their home.

The third, released in 2016, The Purge: Election Year, brings to light the real reasons the Purge began as Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), a Presidential candidate, is targeted for death on Purge night due to her vow to eliminate the Purge. The final, The First Purge, released this year, further follows the underlying story of Election Year. It takes you to the very beginning of why the Purge was started and all the corrupt details behind it. Looking at the New Founding Fathers of America coming to power, they, and with the help of an unbeknown psychologist, conducts an experiment: no laws for 12 hours on Staten Island. No one has to stay on the island, but $5,000 is given to anyone who decides to stay. They are all given eye contacts to film their every move.

The series, The Purge, is based on the whole of these films, each one being a piece to the puzzle. According to IMDB, the series revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Set in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party (NFFA), the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. As the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.

The Purge is going to be set between the first and second movies, giving it a shared timeline within the preexisting universe, according to Vulture. That means the show will occur somewhere between the 7th and the 21st occurrence of the annual event. For the first time, though, flashbacks will take us beyond the immediate hours before and after a Purge night. Creator James DeMonaco said in an interview with Vulture, the show could look at events years before the Purge was implemented by the New Founding Fathers of America (so, before The First Purge), or days or weeks before a Purge night within the NFFA regime. Like the second movie, the narrative will center around a handful of characters whose stories start out separate, but eventually intertwine. For the amount of gore that happens in the movies, that’s not going anywhere. The show will star Gabriel Chavarria as Miguel, Jessica Garza as Penelope, and Hannah Emily Anderson as Jenna. You can catch the premiere, September 4, on the USA network.
