‘The Morning Show’ Recruits Nicole Beharie As Series Regular For Third Season

A new reporter is clocking in for Apple TV’s The Morning Show. Deadline reports Nicole Beharie (Miss Juneteenth, Sleepy Hollow) will join the third season which is currently under production. She joins series’ leads Reese Witherspoon (Little Fires Everywhere, Big Little Lies) and Jennifer Aniston (The Break-Up, We’re The Millers) in the Charlotte Stoudt-run show. This is the actress’s first series regular role since Fox’s Sleepy Hollow adaptation.

According to Deadline, Beharie will play Christina Hunter, a new reporter on the daily news show who is described as “grounded, competitive, and charismatic.” Beharie is the latest recruit to the third season with Mad Men’s Jon Hamm joining the cast as well. The third season will also see Julianna Margulies return in her second season role as Shari Belafonte.

Premiering as one of Apple TV+’s launch shows in 2019, The Morning Show follows the daily interworkings of a media conglomerate, UBA, in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal involving one of its prominent morning anchors. Steve Carrell (The Patient, The Office) plays the Matt Lauder-ish role of Mitch Kessler whose allegations threaten to tank the network and the reputation of its female anchor, Aniston’s Alex Levy. In response to the backlash, the network hires a young, unknown journalist in Witherspoon’s Bradley Jackson.

In addition to Aniston and Witherspoon, the cast includes Billy Crudup (Almost Famous, Big Fish), Mark Duplass (The Chair, Room 104), Karen Pittman (And Just Like That, Unthinkably Good Things), Marcia Gay Harden (So Help Me Todd, Code Black), Nestor Campbell (Bates Motel, The Tick), Bel Powley (Carrie Pilby, The King of Staten Island), Tom Irwin (The Bling Ring, Devious Maids), Desean Terry (God’s Army, Language Lessons) and Janina Gavankar (Big Sky, Blindspotting), via Deadline.

Already an Emmy winner, the series is nominated for three Emmy Awards this year, according to Deadline. Witherspoon is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, with Harden up for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Crudup who won Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2020 has repeated in the same category this year.

Stoudt, whose previous credits include Netflix’s Pieces of Her and FX’s Fosse/Verdon, serves as showrunner and executive producer, via Deadline. Additional producers include Michael Ellenberg (Beauty, Tell-Tale), Kristin Hahn (Anthem, Tumbledown), and Lauren Neustadter (Firehead, Little Fires Everywhere) via Media Res, Echo Films, and Hello Sunshine, respectively. Aniston and Witherspoon also executive produce along with series director, Mimi Leder (On the Bases of Sex, Pay It Forward).

Both seasons of The Morning Show are available to stream on Apple TV+.
