The Live-Action ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Series ‘Powerpuff’ Being Reworked at CW

Although their reunion is still a-go, the Powerpuff Girls aren’t coming to The CW yet. According to TVLine, the pilot episode of Powerpuff is being reworked and redeveloped over the summer, taking it out of The CW’s Fall 2021 schedule.

The news comes as The CW hands series orders to the spinoff of All American: Homecoming and the comic book series adaptation, Naomi, via TVLine. During the summer, which is considered the off-cycle for television, the creative leads of Powerpuff will redevelop it in order to get the show ready for a Spring or Fall 2022 debut on the network.

Despite much of the show being thrown out in order to bring new ideas to the table, the leads of the show – both the creatives and cast – as still attached to the show, according to TVLine. The trio of superpowers sisters will be played by Dove Cameron (Liv & Maddie), Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), and Yana Perrault (Jagged Little Pill) as Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup, respectively.

The Powerpuff Girls’ father, Professor Utonium, will be played by Donald Faison (Scrubs). According to Deadline, the series will still be produced by Warner Bros Television in partnership with Berlanti Productions.

However, Powerpuff is not the only series The CW has neglected to pick up for their fall slate. According to Deadline, The CW will not be moving forward with either the Black Lightning spinoff, Painkiller, or Our Ladies of Brooklyn, a young adult dramedy from the creator and show runner of Jane the Virgin, Jennie Snyder Urman. Our Ladies of Brooklyn, which is being produced by CBS Studios, will be considered by CBS’ streaming platform, Paramount+.

The other series that is still up in the air at the network is Tom Swift, a Nancy Drew spinoff. David Stapf, the president of CBS, stated that “We like Our Ladies of Brooklyn a lot. We also like Tom Swift a lot, which was a kind of a planted, not even a planted, spinoff. It was a character that was planted in Nancy Drew, and we also wrote a first episode. We love both those projects a lot” (Deadline).
