The Latest ‘Chicago’ Crossover a Ratings Success for NBC

NBC’s Chicago shows continue to be rock solid performers for the network and last night’s latest crossover event is no different. The crossover featured Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and newcomer Chicago Justice, with Chicago Med sprinkled throughout all three episodes. Last night’s crossover event lifted NBC to a winning night in terms of both total viewers and ratings, according to TV by the Numbers.

NBC led all three primetime hours of TV last night by a fairly wide margin, with the 8 p.m. hour being the closest hour. Chicago Fire kicked off the night at 8 p.m. and garnered a 1.7 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic and 9.06 million viewers. The show improved 0.1 versus its episode that aired last week.

The second hour of the night featured Chicago P.D., which also benefited from the crossover. The show scored a 1.9 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic and was watched by 9.60 million viewers. The episode marked its best rated episode in over a year and its most watched episode of all time.

Rounding out the night was the special preview episode of Chicago Justice. The show scored a 1.7 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic and was watched by 8.73 million people, making it the third-highest rated series premiere of NBC’s this year (behind This Is Us and Timeless).

The crossover episodes for the Chicago shows tend to lead to slightly higher ratings than normal ratings for the shows involved for the week. In the next episode, ratings tend to go back to normal. As a point of reference, Chicago Fire‘s average rating this season is a 1.61 in the live and same day ratings and Chicago P.D.‘s average rating is a 1.42 rating in the live and same day ratings, according to TV by the Numbers.

Overall, NBC finished the night with an average rating of 1.8 in the 18 to 49 demographic and 9.13 million viewers.

In terms of the other networks, CBS and ABC tied, with both networks averaging a 1.o rating in the 18 to 49 demographic. CBS was watched by an average of 5.13 million viewers and ABC was watched by an average of 3.44 million viewers.

Fox averaged a 0.9 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic and was watched by 3.35 million viewers.

The CW averaged a 0.5 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic and was watched by 1.31 million viewers.
