‘The Last Of Us’ Reveals Episode Count In First Season

HBO’s The Last of Us will consist of ten total episodes within its debut season, according to ComicbookThe news was revealed by writer and executive producer Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) on the Scriptnotes podcast.

Based on the 2013 video game of the same name, The Last of Us will follow Joel, a smuggler with the job of escorting teenage Ellie across the United States during the Apocalypse. Mazin also shared that the show will have five directors across all ten episodes, with the first three to four episodes having already been written. However, it’s currently unclear how much the first season will cover of the game.

The full cast has already been chosen, including Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) as Joel, Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie, Nico Parker (Dumbo) as Sarah, and Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate) as Tommy. The series is being co-written, developed, and produced by Mazin and Neil Druckmann (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves). Because the game has maintained an immensely passionate fanbase since its release to PlayStation 3 in 2013, Mazin’s team is under pressure to release a series that follows the source material.

Filming of The Last of Us will begin in Alberta, Canada. However, the show’s ten-episode first season does not yet have an official release date to HBO.
