Deadline reports that HBO’s The Last of Us has debuted at no. 6 on the Nielsen streaming charts on the week of January 16 through January 22, drawing 837M minutes viewed and outpacing fellow HBO series House of the Dragon. This was the first official week The Last of Us was eligible for the Nielsen streaming charts however the series did manage to get 223M minutes viewed in the last few hours that it made the window of measurement after the series premiere on January 15.
After the premiere, viewing rapidly increased for the week of Episode 1 and a few hours of Episode 2. In the same two episode window, House of the Dragon accumulated 714M viewing minutes. The Nielsen streaming charts measurements do not include viewership on HBO’s linear channel.
The Last of Us has had series high audiences every week since it’s premiere, according to HBO. The network also said that after Episode 3 the first two episodes were averaging 21.3M viewers.
Netflix continued its hold on many spots in the Nielsen streaming charts this week with Ginny & Georgia in the no. 1 spot with 1.8B minutes viewed, That 90’s Show in second place with 1.6B views, and The Walking Dead in third with 1.6B minutes viewed. Netflix’s Vikings:Valhalla and Cocomelon also made the top five and Wednesday was no. 7 with 711M hours viewed, right behind The Last of Us.
Rounding out the list were Bluey with 695M viewing minutes, NCIS with 695M viewing minutes, and Criminal Minds with 659M viewing minutes.
HBO’s The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (The Worst Witch, Becoming Elizabeth) and is currently streaming on HBO max and airing weekly on HBO through March 12.
