The Harry Potter TV Series Will Debut On Max In 2026

Max will be the new home for the future Harry Potter series, The Hollywood Reporter has reported. On Friday morning, the news was released by David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, as intercepted by company call. He stated, via The Hollywood Reporter, “we’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter. The last film was made more than a dozen years ago.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zaslav also revealed that he met with the original writer of the Harry Potter novels, J.K. Rowling (The Casual Vacancy, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), despite being in controversy with fans because of problematic statements on social media couple of years back. “I was in London a few weeks ago with Casey [Bloys, HBO and Max chief] and Channing [Dungey, WBD TV chief] and we spent some real time with J.K. and her team,” Zaslav explained, via The Hollywood Reporter. “Both sides are thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively shared a year ago that they have been working on this series since 2021, and it was given the green light for official production by WBD during the same time.

Back in the beginning of February, it was revealed that writer Francesca Gardiner (Succession, Killing Eve, His Dark Materials) will be one of the final writers to be added to the list for this show.

In another Max streaming event back in Sept. 2023, via Deadline, it was announced that each season of this series will be based on each book in order. In an exclusive Deadline interview, Bloys stated, “This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years

The new Harry Potter series is set to release in 2026 on Max, as stated beforehand.
