‘The Guild’ Announces Start Date For 20th Anniversary Reunion Movie Kick Starter

The groundbreaking web series The Guild has announced the start date of its Kickstarter campaign. The funds from the Kickstarter are intended for a 20th anniversary reunion movie and will open for donations on July 20th. The campaign is entirely fan-driven.

The series originally aired in 2007 as a self-funded web series. Funds ran dry after the first three episodes, so creator Felecia Day (Supernatural, The Mighty Nein) added a fan donation button on the website. Following an outpouring of support, the series ran for six seasons and 70 episodes.

The series centers around the MMORPG guild the “Knights Of Good” as they venture through both gameplay and IRL escapades. It was one of the first web series to break into the mainstream. The movie will undoubtedly honor the original series’s legacy, one that uplifted the gaming and cosplay communities instead of turning them into a joke.

Day shared her excitement about the series’ return. “When I set out to make The Guild, it was because I wanted to show that gamers and nerds like us can be the heroes of our own stories. Hollywood didn’t really get what we were about, so I built the show myself. We made six seasons because our community proved there was an audience for it. With the twentieth anniversary approaching, we get to do it again: prove the studios wrong and have a blast doing it!” she said.

The Guild was a pioneer in creator-owned web series. It won six Streamy Awards and international Web Television. Day’s character, Codex’s costume would be enshrined in the Smithsonian Institution’s collection, and it would earn a spot on Rolling Stone’s The Net’s Best Serial Shows.

The reunion movie will bring back Day as Codex, Sandeep Parikh (Dungeon Call, DesiQuest)as Zaboo, Jeff Lewis (Hail Caeser, There Will Be Brawl) as Vork, Amy Okuda (Atypical, How To Get Way With Murder) as Tink, Robin Thorsen (Kittens In A Cage, Perfect Combination) as Clara, and Vincent Caso (Between Waves, The Party) as Bladezz. Fans can sign up now for updates on the Kickstarter and launch reminders at watchtheguild.com.
