‘The Flintstones’ Animated Comedy Sequel Series In The Works At Fox

Everyone’s favorite characters from the beloved 1960s cartoon The Flintstones will make their return, this time, on Fox, according to DeadlineThe reboot series was initially developed a decade ago by Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy), although it did not go forward into production.

The Flintstones follows a Stone Age family residing in Bedrock, including characters Fred, Wilma, and Pebbles Flintstone. The original series ran for six seasons on ABC and is currently available to stream on HBO Max. The sequel series, Bedrock, is expected to follow the Flintstone family two decades after the original, detailing how Fred is dealing with retirement and Pebbles is beginning her own career.

In ABC’s 1993 made-for-television animated film, The Flintstones’ Pebbles, voiced by Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), works at an advertising agency and marries the child of Barney and Betty Rubble, Bamm-Bamm, and they move to Hollyrock, a fictional portrayal of Hollywood.

The pilot script is being written by Lindsay Kerns (DC Super Hero Girls) while Elizabeth Banks (Charlie’s Angels) and Max Handelman (Charlie’s Angels) will executive produce. The latter two are slated to reunite from their work on both Charlie’s Angels and the Pitch Perfect franchise.

Michael Thorn, President of Fox Entertainment, has stated with regards to the upcoming sequel series, “Long before the Simpsons and Springfield, the Griffins and Quahog, or even when the Belchers started serving burgers on Ocean Avenue, there were the Flintstones and Bedrock. Their imprint on the animation universe is undeniable and the idea of adapting it for today’s audience is a challenge we here at Fox are very much looking forward to taking on with Warner Bros,” via Deadline.  Meanwhile, Peter Girardi, Executive Vice President of Warner Bros Animation, added, “The Flintstones are the first family of primetime animation. Elizabeth and Lindsay have brilliant take on these characters, and Fox and Brownstone are the perfect partners to bring them back to primetime. This is going to rock,” via Deadline
