The Final Season of Golden Globe Winner ‘The Affair’ Will Premiere On Showtime

As announced in a press release provided by Showtime, the fifth and final season of the network’s critically acclaimed and Golden Globe winning The Affair will premiere on Sunday, August 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The series delves into both the psychological and emotional impacts of an affair that has torn two relationships apart. Following this falling out, it takes a criminal act to lure these four individuals back together. Set in the North East, The Affair stars Dominic West as Noah Solloway, Ruth Wilson as Alison Lockhart, Maura Tierney as Helen Solloway, and Joshua Jackson as Cole Lockhart. These actors will be joined by new series regular and Oscar and Golden Globe Award winner Anna Paquin (True Blood) in the final season. The press release also names Jennifer Jason Leigh (PATRICK MELROSE), Claes Bang (The Square), and Lyric Bent (She’s Gotta Have it) as upcoming guest stars.

According to the press release, the fifth season will explore the troubling aftermath of former seasons and will force each character to face the repercussions of their actions. In an effort to find what she’s been missing thus far, Helen (Tierney) will make her season debut by sparking yet another affair with a movie star (Bang). Meanwhile, Noah (West) must step up to the plate and assume his role at the helm of the family in his estranged wife’s absence. But just as Noah is finding his feet, he runs into someone from the past who turns his world upside down once again. Then, sometime in the future, Joanie Lockhart (Paquin), the adult daughter of Cole and Alison, is left to uncover everything her mother went through.

WGA Award-winning playwright, showrunner, writer, and executive producer Sarah Treem created the series. Treem has also been celebrated for her work on House of Cards and In Treatment. Jessica Rhoades (Sharp Objects) executive produces The Affair alongside Hagai Levi (In Treatment) and Michele Giordono (Nurse Jackie).
