After fans have waited years to find out Amy Sherman-Palladino’s magical final four words that they thought they’d never hear after Sherman-Palladino and her husband, Daniel, left the show at the end of the sixth season, they finally know what the words are.
This is your last chance to turn around and avoid spoilers for the last episode of the revival series.
Entertainment Weekly (and fans of the show everywhere) have learned that the elusive final four words of the show make it come full circle. As Sherman-Palladino promised when talk of the final four words came about when the revival was officially announced again, they were spoken by both Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel).
As a way to set the scene, the beloved Lorelai and Rory are sitting on the steps of the gazebo, which is arguably one of the most magical spots in Stars Hollow. Luke (Scott Patterson) and Lorelai finally got married and Lorelai is telling Rory that she should get married so they can be married at the same time. Rory turns to her mother and the final four words are about to be said.
Rory: Mom?
Lorelai: Yeah?
Rory: I’m pregnant.
Fade to black. Carole King’s “Where You Lead” starts playing as the credits run for the last time again.
Needless to say, fans weren’t necessarily pleased with what the final four words ended up being.
Logan (Matt Czuchry) makes the most sense of being the father of Rory’s baby. And, for fans, hints of what the final four words have been floating around for a least a week, when Sherman-Palladino gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly where she said that Logan is supposed to be similar to Christopher (David Sutcliffe). While it’s a very loose interpretation, some could have read into the interview a little bit too much and come to the conclusion.
But if it was up to Patterson, he’d be fine with doing revivals of the show all the time, telling The Hollywood Reporter “It’s be nice to do it every year. Maybe every two years, do a three-month thing, do four more chapters. It was easy to do. It was fun. It was really rewarding and people got a sense that if this was going to be the last thing that we now have some closure.”
As for Sherman-Palladino, she gave a rather ambiguous answer as to whether there will be more Gilmore Girls in the future, saying “We really had a very specific journey in our minds and we fulfilled the journey. So to us, this is the piece that we wanted to do. And the whole thought about, ‘Is there more, is there more, is there more?’ — this has to go out into the universe now. We’ve got to put this to bed. And then whatever happens, happens.”
