The upcoming Marvel Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has announced the newest additions to its cast. In addition to MCU stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, the show will feature Desmond Chiam of Reef Break and Miki Ishikawa of The Terror: Infamy.
This announcement follows the recent news that Marvel Television, the studio behind most of the original Marvel television content, would be ceasing operations. All of Marvel’s television projects will now be premiering on Disney+, with shows like WandaVision, Ms. Marvel, Loki, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. These new series will reportedly be essential to understanding plots of future MCU films.
In a recent interview, Sebastian Stan expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming show. “It’s going to be so cool and kind of crazy… All I can say is it’s just new and different from what you’ve seen so far. I mean, it will be totally in line with everything that has happened and what we’ve seen and so on, but these characters are getting such additional mileage in terms of learning about who they are now, what they feel, what they’re thinking, and there’s a lot of action, comedy, you know there’s going to be comedy. I feel like you’re going to be happy. I think you’re going to be very happy. And there’s some crazy stuff, like stuff you don’t see coming from anywhere.”
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will follow the story of Sam Wilson (Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Stan) working together as a superhero team after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Other cast members for the series that have been announced include Daniel Bruhl, who will reprise his role as Baron Zemo, Emily VanCamp, who will be returning as Agent Sharon Carter, and Wyatt Russell, who will be playing a new character from the comics named John Walker, also known as Super Patriot. Chiam’s and Ishikawa’s roles have not yet been revealed. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is set to premiere on Disney+ in August 2020.
