‘The Fairly Odd Parents’ Returns With A New Protagonist, Hazel, And Timmy Turner’s Absence Explained

According to Comicbook.com, the beloved animated series, The Fairly Odd Parents, is making a much-anticipated return to television screens with a fresh series titled The Fairly Odd Parents: A New Wish, set to premiere today, Monday, May 20th. Unlike a reboot, this new installment serves as a sequel to the original series that ended some years ago. The new series introduces a brand-new character, Hazel, who becomes the latest “godkid” under the guidance of Cosmo and Wanda, following their extensive retirement period spanning thousands of years.

Fans have eagerly awaited the return of familiar faces from the original series, especially with voice actors Daran Norris (Ned’s Declassified, A Fairly Odd Movie, T.U.F.F. Puppy) and Susanne Blakeslee (Wall. E, Shrek The Third, Coraline), reprising their roles as Cosmo and Wanda. One of the most pressing questions has been about the potential return of Timmy Turner, the central character from the original series. Speculation was fueled by glimpses of a character resembling Timmy in new online clips and the premiere episode.

According to ComicBook.com, co-executive producers Lindsay Katai (Teen Creeps, Infinity Train, Tvoovies) and David Stone (Teen Titans Go, Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil, Wordgirl), clarified Timmy Turner’s absence from the new series. Katai stated, “It’s not Timmy, it’s not Timmy. Timmy still exists.” The character seen by fans is a visual homage to an early episode where Timmy wished to be grown-up.

This design nods to the fan-favorite ending of Channel Chasers, and the producers emphasized that their new show respects that conclusion. As per Comicbook.com, Katai added, hinting at the expansive possibilities within the series universe, “Cosmo and Wanda took a 10,000 year vacation through space and time. They still have future god kids. It could be Timmy’s kids, who knows?” universe. Katai elaborated on the decision to focus on Hazel, saying, “We didn’t want to make people wait on, do we see Timmy? Don’t we see Timmy? Because the fact is, no, you don’t, and so we don’t want to tease this thing that you’re not going to see. We might see him in the future if we get more episodes ordered. That’s certainly not off the table, but we wanted to focus on Hazel for the first bit of the show. Because this is Hazel’s time.”

According to Comicbook.com, Stone also shared insights into the creative process behind using the grown-up Timmy design for a different character, which sparked much debate. He explained, “The one you’re speaking of in particular, we all just thought the design was hilarious. We kind of wanted to use it.”

Comicbook.com notes that Katai spoke further about how this design appears frequently as a generic adult figure in various scenarios. “So actually, any time we need some grown-up to stick in there, I think we use this adult, not-Timmy. He’s in it quite a bit, but it’s not Timmy. “With The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish focusing on Hazel’s adventures, voiced by Ashleigh Crystal Hairston (Jessica’s Big Little World, Craig Of The Creek, Tiny Toons Looniversity), fans can expect a fresh yet familiar journey filled with magic and mischief. The series aims to honor the original while paving the way for new stories and characters, ensuring that the spirit of The Fairly Odd Parents lives on.
