The CW has announced that they have renewed the superhero series Stargirl for a second season, according to Deadline. The series is adapted from DC Comics and the world of Courtney Whitmore and was created for television by Geoff Johns (The Flash, Arrow). Currently, the series premiered and airs on the online platform DC Universe. However, with this news of its renewal, the show is being shifted over to The CW exclusively and the ensuing season will air on the network and its streaming platforms the day after the initial air date. The superhero series has been airing episodes on The CW the day after DC Universe’s premiere of its episodes. The program is currently in the midst of its 13-episode first season with its eighth episode set to air on July 13.
Stargirl follows the aftermath of the death of the Justice Society of America members at the hands of the Injustice Society of America and a high schooler in Courtney Whitmore following her discovery of the Cosmic Staff of Starman and the powers that come with it. After Whitmore’s finding, she discovers that her stepfather, Pat Dugan, had a past life as a sidekick for the aforementioned Starman. Whitmore is portrayed by Brec Bassinger (Bella and the Bulldogs) and Luke Wilson (Old School) portrays her stepfather Pat. Additional cast includes the likes of Amy Smart (Varsity Blues), Yvette Monreal (Faking It), Cameron Gellman (Heathers), Jake Austin Walker (Rectify), and Anjelika Washington (Tall Girl, Young Sheldon). Johns, in addition to creating the show, acts as an executive producer with its showrunner Melissa Carter (Queen Sugar) in addition to Greg Berlanti (Dawson’s Creek, Love, Simon), Greg Beeman (Falling Skies, Heroes), and Sarah Schecter (The Flash, Black Lightning).
