‘The Crown’ Reveals First Look at Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West as Princess Dianna and Prince Charles

Netflix’s The Crown has done a masterful job of replicating the English monarchy on many facets. Now, the show, in its fifth season, seems to have been around as long as the monarchy it depicts. Via Variety, with season four only coming less than a year ago, the series is onto the next one, releasing photos on set of their new Princess Diana and Prince Charles.

Season four of The Crown is expected to be a major player in the upcoming Emmys award show in many categories. Specifically, the actress who played Princess Diana, Emma Corrin (Pennyworth), is a major frontrunner for Leading Actress in a Drama Series. The series is a major believer of the notion that too much of a good thing is a bad thing as a new actress will take the helm as the eccentric, free-spirited Diana.

The new photos gave fans their first look at Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet) as the new princess. Alongside her, Dominic West (The Wire) will take over for Josh O’Connor (Emma) as Prince Charles. The two will definitely bring more maturity to the two characters as both went through so much in the last chapter. Their love-filled marriage quickly faded as both became involved in affairs, depicted in the last season.

The new season will supposedly surround what is usually dubbed the Queen’s so-called “annus horribilis.” In 1992, three out of the four Queen’s children separated from their partners. This era was marred in scandal as Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, played by Emerald Fennell (Call the Midwife), is revealed along with the news that Prince Andrew’s wife, Sarah Ferguson, had been caught sunbathing topless with a male friend.

It has not been announced yet if season five will make it all the way to Diana’s death in 1997 or that will be left for the next installment. Season six will reportedly be the last for the show so it will be interesting to see how far the fifth season stretches.
