As reported by Variety, Prime Video has released the teaser trailer for its upcoming comedic-thriller series The Consultant, starring Christoph Waltz (No Time to Die, Most Dangerous Game) as the enigmatic Regus Patoff, a consultant hired to improve the business at the gaming company CompWare. As he begins to impose his twisted demands on the employees, they start to question everything, including their own lives.
Based on Bentley Little’s 2015 novel of the same name, the eight-episode series also stars Nat Wolff (Paper Towns, Behaving Badly), Brittany O’Grady (The White Lotus, Black Christmas) and Aimee Carrero (Elena of Avalor, The Offer). The Consultant is produced by MGM Television and Amazon Studios, with Tony Basgallop (Inside Men, What Remains) serving as creator, showrunner and executive producer alongside Waltz, director Matt Shakman (WandaVision, Game of Thrones), Steve Stark (Wednesday, The Handmaid’s Tale) and Andrew Mittman (The Addams Family, Elvis). Kai Dolbashian (DUI) serves as co-producer.
Waltz is known for his collaborations with Quentin Tarantino, including his breakthrough role as Hans Landa in Inglorious Basterds and his appearance in Django Unchained, both of which earned him Academy, BAFTA and Golden Globe awards for supporting actor. He has also starred in films such as Tim Burton’s Big Eyes, Alexander Payne’s Downsizing and Sam Mendes’ James Bond film Spectre. More recently, he reprised his role as Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in No Time to Die and appeared in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch. He also starred in Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion adaptation of Pinocchio.
The Consultant is a biting workplace satire that combines suspense and dark humor, according to Michael Wright, president of scripted TV at MGM. “Tony has created something truly unexpected with this series, and we are thrilled to partner with Amazon and this brilliant creative team to bring the story to life for audiences around the world,” he said, via Variety.
As stated by Variety, Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon Studios, added: “With The Consultant, Tony Basgallop has created something fearless with equal parts savage humor and delicious thrills. We are excited to collaborate with him and the entire creative team in bringing this edge-of-your-seat, can’t-miss series to our Prime Video customers across the globe.”
