The Cast of Nicki Minaj’s Comedy Series on ABC Family Confirmed

The cast for ABC’s new scripted comedy series “Nicky” has officially been set. The award winning rapper/songwriter expressed her excitement on her Instagram account by saying “I am honored and excited to announce that I’ve literally hand picked the main characters of my scripted series ‘Nicki.’”

The pop also announced on Instagram that the actress who will be portraying the younger version of herself will be Ariana Grande Neal.

Ariana Neal’s past films include “Get Hard” and “Fruitvale Station.”

“Nicki” will also star Whoopi Goldberg (Miss Martha/Nicki’s neighbor), Selita Ebanks (Grace/Nicki’s mom), Wesley Jonathan (Vincent/Nicki’s father), and McCarrie McCausland (Jelani/Nicki’s older brother).

The single-camera show will be based on the life story of Nicki Minaj and her family’s immigration from Trinidad in the early 1990s. The comedy series will also go in-depth to Minaj’s life growing up in Queens, New York and everything that lead up to her journey to superstardom.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, ABC Family announced back in October that the half-hour show would be greenlit, shot, and directed by Tim Story in Queens this winter.

The executive producers of “Nicki” include Nicki Minaj, Aaron Kaplan, Stella Bulochnikov, Brian Sher, and Gee Roberson. The show will be written by Kate Angelo who will also serve as an executive producer of the comedy series.

The show will debut under ABC Family which will officially be rebranded to Freeform on January 12, 2016.
