‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Resumes Production This Week

According to Entertainment WeeklyThe Bold and the Beautiful is returning to production this Wednesday, June 17th. There is no set air date, but the series may return as early as mid-July.

Being one of the first U.S. broadcast series to resume production in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the show’s life on set will appear much different than usual. The CBS daytime drama show will be following COVID-19 safety guidelines recommended by city and county officials; this includes regular testing, continuous mask usage, shorter work days and fewer cast members on set at a time. The scripts as a result were subjected to alterations to account for the new protocols. Deadline notes that a COVID-19 coordinator will be on set at all times to enforce that the production follows the safety guidelines.

Entertainment Weekly provides the state of California’s issued guidelines for the film and TV industry to follow, allowing projects to resume production. Hollywood unions furthered these protocols by requiring sets to be closed to visitors and shoots to be ten hours or less.

The Bold and the Beautiful, which was recently renewed through 2022, had four to six weeks worth of episodes completed before production shutdown on March 17. The last original episode aired last month and on April 27, the show started to air repeat episodes. However, the series still managed to keep viewers engaged with special episode clips and bonus commentary from cast members.

Pre-production officially began on Tuesday. Producers at Bell-Phillip Television had been hopeful for a June production restart, but the cast and crew’s health remain top priority. Deadline notes that the producers have continually updating the staff in preparation for the filming continuation. Bradley Bell (The Young and the Restless) is the executive producer of the show.
