‘The Big Bang Theory’ Moves to Different Night During NFL Games

CBS will move comedy series The Big Bang Theory to a different night as they ready Thursdays for the NFL games the network plans to offer.

According to Deadline, CBS CEO Les Moonves confirmed the speculation that Big Bang would stay put on Thursday nights and hinted that Elementary would also keep its permanent home. However, the shows will likely move to another night of the week when the NFL games air on Thursday nights.

“We’re not going to wait until November to start the fall’s new season of Big Bang or Elementary,” Moonves said. “It’ll be on some other night.”

The eight NFL games the network plans on airing will “tighten up our existing schedule.”

Moonves rejected the notion that male-skewing football games would hinder its return to female-skewing shows when the eight weeks are done. “There are still a lot of women who watch [football],” he said. “The male-female balance is not something we’re in the slightest concerned about.”

CBS won the bid to air the NFL games because the league feels the network “would do a better job” than their rivals by creating a Thursday night franchise for the NFL, Moonves said. He also added that the network would like to extend the deal past the current one-year duration.

“Do I hope we get it longer? Sure, but so does everybody else…It’s a good short term value and long term value.”
