The 2023 Emmy’s Have Set a Date

In light of the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, Fox’s Primetime Emmy’s have been moved to January. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pre-taped Creative Arts ceremonies are also being pushed back to January as well. The live telecast of the Emmy’s and the pre-taped Creative Arts ceremonies have typically been held in their usual September dates, however officials are hoping for resolution among the continuing labor strikes so that the shows can be released in January.

After many months of going back and forth among the Television Academy and the 2024 Emmy broadcaster, Fox has selected a new date for the Primetime Emmy Awards to be on Monday January 15th. The awards show will be held at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT at the Peacock Theater, which has been newly named, at LA Live. This also happens to be when Martin Luther King Jr. Day happens to be this coming year as well. The date of the show will also be five months after the finale ballot for voting will be cast. The voting process for the Emmy’s is still taking place on schedule amidst the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. The final round for voting will take place on August 17th and run through until August 28th.

On the other hand, the Creative Arts ceremonies will be set for the date of Saturday, January 6th and Sunday, January 7th. The ceremonies will take place at LA Live as well and the airing of the ceremonies will be on FXX 8 p.m. the following Saturday.

Setting the date for the Emmy’s was unavoidable in Hollywood’s climate of strikes at the moment. The telecast would have been able to be scheduled and run normally without the writers, however it is impossible to operate the shows without the presence of the actors themselves. It was briefly considered to move the date for a closer time such as in November, however the still struggling negotiations would not render this option to be a wise choice.

Writers and The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have only shortly met up one time during the 101 days of striking, actors have had zero contact between the studios since their strike started on July 12. On the other hand, the Creative Arts ceremonies will be set for the date of Saturday, January 6th and Sunday, January 7th. The ceremonies will take place at LA Live as well and the airing of the ceremonies will be on FXX 8 p.m. the following Saturday.
