TCA Awards Nominees Announced

The nominees for the Television Critics Association Awards, dedicated to recognizing outstanding television over the past year, have been announced. Variety recently reported on the nominations, noting that FX’s Atlanta, NBC’s This is Us, and Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale are tied for having the most series nominations, with the shows garnering four nominations each. The TCA Awards lend attention to the best performances, producers, and shows in different categories, awarding series in such areas as news/information, miniseries, sports, reality, drama, and comedy.

HBO leads the network pack with twelve nominations, while FX is close on its heels with eleven. Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon are recognized by the TCA Awards as well, with Netflix collecting ten nominations, Hulu four, and Amazon two. This was the first year Hulu nabbed a nomination. Another significant detail in this year’s nominations is Fargo and The Leftovers star Carrie Coon, who was nominated twice for her roles on the FX and HBO shows, making TCA history with a double nomination.

Speaking to the exceptional quality of television over this past year, TCA president Amber Dowling stated, “This was truly a landmark season for diversity in television, and the TCA nominations reflect this. …With so many great programs—both new and returning—it was a real challenge for our members to whittle these nominees down.” The top American television critics from all over the country will now begin the voting process and determine the winners for each category.

Kristen Chenoweth is set to host the invitation-only awards ceremony, which takes place on Saturday, August 5 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. See the full list of nominees here.
