Tardis Touchdown: ‘Doctor Who’ Finds A New Sci-fi Streaming Sanctuary On AMC+

The long-running sci-fi phenomenon, Doctor Who, is gearing up for a major transition to a new streaming platform, promising a fresh era of intergalactic adventures for Whovians everywhere. Streaming service AMC+ officially picked up the rights to the series, offering fans access to all 13 seasons released between 2005 and 2022 beginning early as June 11. Originally premiering on the BBC in 1963, the long-running series has consistently adhered to its foundational narrative, following the travels of an alien Time Lord and their companions across the space-time continuum.

There has been numerous actors that have taken the role has the Doctor, which include David Tennant (Duck Tales, Good Omen), Jodie Whittaker (Time, One Night) and Ncuti Gatwa (Barbie, Sex Education). It has been about a year since the latest season finale aired in which the final scene showed Gatwa’s Doctor regenerated into Billie Piper (Wednesday, Penny Dreadful).

AMC’s Executive Vis President of Global Media,Courtney Thomasma spoke about series impact to its growing library “Doctor Who strengthens AMC+’s position as a destination for premium genre storytelling – curated franchises defined by iconic worlds, passionate fan bases and enduring cultural impact.” She further adds  “We’re thrilled to welcome the Whoniverse into our home of fandoms, giving longtime fans a reason to return while inviting new audiences to discover one of television’s most beloved franchises.”

As streaming platforms scramble for must-watch recognizable hits to fuel their growth, this shift places the series in excellent company. It joins a high-caliber AMC lineup that already boasts fan favorites like The Walking Dead and Dark Winds.

The upcoming June 11 debut is poised to spark significant buzz among audiences seeking a fresh streaming home for the acclaimed series. While fans eagerly anticipate the new season’s arrival on its primary platform, they can pass the time by revisiting the show’s extensive history; previous seasons of Doctor Who are currently available across several streaming services, most notably Disney+ and Tubi . Looking further ahead, the series is rumored to make a high-stakes, “stellar” return with even more new content slated for late 2026.
