‘Tangled’ TV Series Coming to Disney Channel in 2017

Tangled will be an animated TV series on Disney Channel, premiering in 2017.

This animated show will be based on the 2010 Disney movie, Tangled. The stars of the movie will be returning for the TV series. Mandy Moore voices Rapunzel and Zachary Levi voices Eugene.

According to Variety, this show will reunite the movies composer and lyricist. Alan Menken was the movie’s composer alongside Glenn Slater, who was the lyricist. They are teaming up again to work on this upcoming Disney Television Animation project. Supervising director and executive producer of the project will be Enchanted‘s Chris Sonnenburg. Shane Prigmore (The Lego Movie) is the project’s co-executive producer and creator director.

Gary Marsh, president and CCO of Disney Channels Worldwide, commented on the development of this TV series. “The genius of the original movie was its seamless blending of cinematic adventure, character-driven comedy and touching emotion. And we are fortunate to have several of the creative talent from that movie on board with this new production. With the addition of Chris and Shane as executive producers, we have the perfect team in place to create a series worthy of the original film.”

Tangled on Disney Channel is said to begin following Rapunzel as she gets to know her parents and learns what it is like to be of royalty. As she is acquainting herself with the people of her kingdom, she realizes that she needs to learn more about herself before she can get married and take the crown. Rapunzel proceeds to journey on epic adventures with her charming bandit Eugene (Levi), her plucky chameleon sidekick, Pascal, and her horse, Maximus. Also joining in on the adventures will be the Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs, and Rapunzel’s new confidant Cassandra, a tough-as-nails handmaiden.

Tangled has given Disney much success after its premiere in 2010. The franchise is hoping that the new TV series enjoys just as much excitement as the original motion picture.
