“It’s probably hard to believe because of how normal and peaceful everything seems right now,” Jimmy Fallon says by way of introduction to his most recent late night digital original clip, “But our office is actually a lot like the world of Game of Thrones.” The world of late night television, he claims, is filled with the same “backbiting and political intrigue” that plagues Westeros, and offers up this behind-the-scenes clip to prove it.
Titled “Game of Desks,” familiar faces appear in elaborate costumes throughout the video, playing the roles of various Game of Thrones characters. Complete with a title sequence to rival that of the HBO show, the clip portrays Ned, Joffrey, Varys, Daenerys and the Night’s Watch, among others. The result is a highly entertaining depiction of the “competition” that takes place backstage at 30 Rock.
Jimmy Fallon was recently announced as Jay Leno’s replacement on the Tonight Show, while Seth Meyers will be taking over hosting duties at Late Night. The very end of “Game of Desks” offers a nod to this change at NBC, which will take place in February 2014.
